Why add a battery now?

Battery systems store the solar power your panels generate during the day so you can use it in the evening when you need it most. That means lower power bills, better energy independence, and the ability to keep the lights on during outages. The Cheaper Home Batteries Program gives you a financial head start and helps future-proof your home.

Benefits of battery storage include:

  • Lower electricity bills by using your own stored solar
  • Backup power during blackouts
  • Less reliance on the grid
  • Greater control over your energy use
  • Support for future participation in Virtual Power Plants (VPPs)

How much is the rebate and what systems are eligible?

The rebate is expected to cover up to 30% of the upfront cost of installing an eligible battery system, based on the usable storage capacity.

In 2025, that works out to a maximum of $372 per kilowatt-hour for systems up to 50 kWh. This translates to potential savings of up to $18,600 on a full system. The rebate will gradually reduce each year through to 2030, so acting early means maximising your return.

To qualify for the rebate, battery installations must meet specific criteria:

  • Installed on or after 1 July 2025
  • Be a system under 100 kWh
  • Include CEC-approved battery and inverter products
  • Installed by an accredited installer
  • Connected to a new or existing solar PV system
  • Be VPP-capable (even if you’re not participating yet)

We have deep experience in this space and can provide advice and input.
