HOW THE FEDERAL REBATE ACTUALLY WORKS

The ~30% Discount Explained Simply

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program is run by the Clean Energy Regulator. When you install an eligible battery system, your installer creates Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) on your behalf. Those STCs are traded on the open market, and the value is passed to you as a direct discount off the system price at the time of purchase.

There is no application to fill out on your end. No waiting for a check. No income limit. The discount comes off the invoice before you pay anything.

  • Larger systems: rebate applies at 100% rate up to 14kWh, then tapers above that
