What is the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) Program?

The Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program is a government initiative designed to help Victorians lower greenhouse gas emissions and energy costs by encouraging the adoption of energy-efficient technologies. Rebates are offered for installing approved products that meet the program’s strict energy efficiency standards.

To qualify for rebates, the heating and cooling system must be listed on the VEU product registry. Only products on this registry meet the program’s eligibility criteria, ensuring they deliver measurable energy savings and emissions reductions.

The rebates are made possible through the creation of Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs), which are issued based on the energy savings achieved by the approved system.

How VEECs Are Created?

Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs) represent the energy savings achieved by upgrading to an approved energy-efficient system. Each certificate corresponds to one tonne of greenhouse gas emissions reduced.

VEECs are created after installation, once all required documentation, including compliance certificates, is submitted to the VEU program. The number of VEECs generated depends on factors such as:

  • The type of system installed.
  • The energy savings the system delivers.
  • The efficiency of the product, as listed on the VEU registry.

At AEU, we handle this process for you, ensuring a smooth rebate application and compliance submission.

Eligible Heating and Cooling Systems

The VEU program supports a range of energy-efficient heating and cooling systems, including:

  • Split Systems: Split systems are ideal for single rooms or targeted spaces. They are compact, energy-efficient, and perfect for spaces like bedrooms and living areas.
  • Multi-Split Systems: One outdoor unit powers multiple indoor units, offering personalized temperature control for different rooms. These systems are flexible and efficient, making them perfect for multi-room setups.
  • Ducted Systems: Ducted air conditioning provides whole-home comfort. Air is distributed evenly through ducts connected to a central unit, ensuring consistent temperatures throughout the home.
  • Heat Pumps: Heat pumps are a highly efficient option for heating and cooling, using advanced technology to transfer heat rather than generate it. They are significantly more energy-efficient than traditional systems.

Each of these systems must be an approved product listed on the VEU registry to qualify for rebates.
