Instant Asset Write-Off

Instant Asset Write-off, How Can You Benefit?

Get an asset write-off, instantly.

As a part of the Federal Government’s Economic Stimulus Package, the instant asset write-off has been increased from $30,000 to $150,000. Commercial entities with a yearly turnover of less than $500 million can enjoy this tax stimulus incentive. Grants an ideal opportunity for businesses to purchase energy-saving equipment and make the switch to solar power and reduce energy costs.

What’s an Instant Asset Write-off, anyway?

Under the Instant Asset Write-off incentive, eligible organisations can:

  • Write-off the cost of each of their assets that cost less than the threshold.
  • Get a tax deduction for the purchase cost, in the year the system is used or installed.
  • Utilize the incentive for both new and second-hand systems. However, there are some exclusions and restrictions that must be considered.

If you would like to find out how you can take advantage of this current benefit. We, at Australian Energy Upgrades are prepared to assist you.

Benefits of Solar Power to Business

The Key Benefits of Solar Power to Business

The continuous increase of electric power demand evokes the higher price of oil and fossil fuels. A growing concern for the environment, indeed. With this, many businesses are turning to alternative sources of energy, one of which is solar power.

Businesses and organisations are now resorting to solar energy with hopes to benefit from its wealthy advantages:

  1. It reduces electricity costs

Electricity cost in Australia has grown and is continuously doubling for the past decade, making the country one of the highest users of energy. Installing a solar system for commercial purposes reduces electricity bills as the business becomes less reliant on the energy coming from the grid.  A great investment to protect your business against the constant surge of conventional electricity prices. The less the fossil fuel dependence is, the closer you are to not being affected by the change, the more you can save.

       2. Going Green Can Optimize Brand Image

Solar systems are proven to deliver an exemplary contribution to environmental conservation, which businesses can use in boosting their green credentials and improve their public image. This attracts customers who share the same values as you have, as well as other businesses with eco beliefs.

       3. Enjoy Government-provided incentives

Commercial solar systems are now more affordable through different incentives and programs induced by the government.

Small-Scale Technology Certificates (STCs)

Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs)

STCs are tradable commodities obtained when purchasing a renewable energy system such as hot water systems and solar panels. This can be used in the form of a rebate on the purchased system.

The amount of electricity (in megawatts) generated by your installed system will determine the number of STCs to be granted under your name. The bigger the system, the more STCs the system will receive as it has bigger capacity with lesser energy to be taken from the grid. Normally, a 100kWh system generates roughly $50,000 worth of incentive.

Aside from the size, the amount of STCs also depends on the geographic location your system is installed.

FEED-IN TARIFFS
These are programs ruled by the state and federal governments where businesses are eligible to be paid for the excess electricity produced by their systems which is exported to the main grid. Information on feed-in tariffs can be accessed here.
ENVIRONMENTAL UPGRADE FINANCE

Environmental Upgrade Finance or EUF is a council-based financing scheme allowing business owners, tenants and investors to gain access to long-term financial advantages when installing and upgrading an efficient energy system. including LED lighting and solar energy, to existing commercial and non-residential buildings paid off through local council rates.

Retailer Energy Efficiency Scheme

Retailer Energy Efficiency Scheme – South Australia

Retailer Energy Efficiency Scheme or REES is a South Australian energy-saving program requiring energy retailers to assist residential and commercial spaces in saving energy consumption and costs. This is done through setting out energy efficiency targets which has to be met by electricity retailers.

South Australian customers can receive discounts on energy-saving activities from retailers participating in the said scheme. For retailers to achieve the target, they can carry out various approved activities that can either be done directly or with a third-party contractor.

Victorian Energy Upgrades

Victorian Energy Upgrades – Victoria

The Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) Scheme is a program that aims to help households make energy saving upgrades by giving access to discounted energy efficiency products including LED lighting, Hot Water and In-Home Display units. These products are to be sold and installed by accredited providers and these providers will then create Victorian Energy Upgrades Certificates (VEECs). The certificates will then determine the amount of discount customers can avail. Note that the number of certificates to be granted varies on the size, location and the energy saved using the product.

Activities Eligible under the VEU Program
  • Building-based lighting upgrades
  • Non-building based upgrades
  • Public lighting upgrades
  • Hot water upgrades
  • In-home display units
  • Double glazing
  • weather sealing
  • + Many more activities, contact us to find out more

Home Energy Efficiency Retrofits

Home Energy Efficiency Retrofits – New South Wales

The Home Energy Efficiency Retrofits (HEERs) is a program that offers NSW customers the access to subsidies on projects that nurtures a property’s energy-efficiency. This is applicable for lighting, electricity and gas.

Same with the VEU, HEERs require energy retailers to meet energy saving targets. Energy providers can purchase Energy Saving Certificates generated under the program. These certificates are used to get the subsidy. However, to use this method, there is a $30 co-payment for every completed activity.

Below is the list of activities under the HEERs program and its corresponding lighting equipment requirements.

  • Activity Definition E1 – Replace halogen downlight with a LED luminaire and/or lamp
  • Activity Definition E2 – Replace a linear halogen floodlight with a high efficiency lamp
  • Activity Definition E3 – Replace parabolic aluminised reflector (PAR) lamp with efficient luminaire and/or lamp
  • Activity Definition E5 – Replace T8 or T12 luminaire with a LED luminaire
  • Activity Definition E11 – Replace an edison screw or bayonet lamp with an LED lamp for general lighting purposes.
  • Activity Definition E13 – Replace T5 luminaire with a LED luminaire.

Emission Reduction Fund

Emissions Reduction Fund – National

The Emissions Reduction Fund is a voluntary scheme with goals to provide incentives to individuals, organizations and businesses that acquire new technologies and practices to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. This scheme is observed all over the country.

A list of energy-saving activities works under this scheme, these activities grant participants the Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) for the reduced emission. Earned ACCUs can be sold to the government or in the market to generate profit.
